Farragut will not be following the traditional graduation ceremony that we have for the past years aside from 2020. In fact, it will be much similar to the class of 2020 last year. The class of 2021’s graduation will be held at the football field this year. This will be different because in the past Knox County Schools have graduated from Thompson Boling Arena in downtown Knoxville.
I remember attending my brother’s graduation here in class of 2016. Most of the stadium was packed with friends and extended families cheering on their son or daughter who was currently walking across that stage to get the 12 year long diploma that they had worked for. After seeing how many people attend that graduation, I wonder how they will accommodate this with the football field that most definitely will not be able to hold anywhere close to that many people while following Covid regulations. On the other hand, having the graduation at the football field does have some pros. This will allow us to skip all of the heavy traffic of getting in and out of downtown that can take hours at times. This will also be a much more familiar setting for all of the people who will be attending the graduation. Due to Covid still being around this year, they will most likely just keep it closed to family members only and try and have social distancing in the stands and on the field. Either way, I’m sure that the class of 2021 will have a graduation to remember and be an important moment in all of our lives just as it was for the previous classes at Farragut High School.
