Summer is drawing to a close and cooler weather is creeping in, which can only mean one thing for the fashion world: Fashion Week. Major cities such as Milan, Paris, and London are the hosts of these bi-annual events that are full of runway shows, parties, and galleries to display all the seasonal fashion trends to come. This past week, New York was buzzing with anticipation, excitement, and of course, style. Designers and brands such as Coach, Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, and Brandon Maxwell made their appearances along with some new-comers who are sure to make an impact in the fashion industry. Let’s take a look at some of the top trends and styles from this week!

Celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Zendaya, and the singer, H.E.R, all provided support for their favorite designers by making appearances at the events. Trends like tie dye, animal print, suits, and patchwork dominated the runway.

One of Farragut’s own, Sara Ray, a style icon here at FHS, sat down with us to talk about the ins and outs of fashion and how she describes her style.

Sara states, “…when freshman year came around I looked up to these seniors who wore really beautifully crafted outfits. They were like art.”

Similar to the bright, fun colors at New York Fashion Week, Sara said her style is “…all over the place, it’s full of vibrant colors and funky layers.”

Designers like Sally LaPoint showcased the beauty of simple monochrome that celebrates the classic woman. In contrast, Prabal Gurung paid homage to American Fashion history by using rose prints, tie dye, and feathers to get his message across. Another designer, Johnathan Simkhai, showcased dresses that represent a 60’s garden party. He used flowy tops with shades of pastel.

When Sara saw the looks at New York Fashion Week, she specifically liked the “Sleek looks with lots of extra fabric which depict beauty in different ways.”

Fashion Week showcases the many talents from designers all around the world. Now let’s take a look at some of the trends and styles and review these looks!
