RACHEL, NEVADA – JULY 22: An Extraterrestrial Highway sign covered with stickers is seen along state route 375 on July 22, 2019 near Rachel, Nevada. State officials drew inspiration from the alien legends at the nearby top-secret military installation known as Area 51 and dubbed the 98 mile route from U.S. highway 93 to U.S. highway 6, the Extraterrestrial Highway in February 1996. A Facebook event entitled, “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us,” which the author stated was meant as a joke, calls for people to storm the highly classified U.S. Air Force facility near Rachel on September 20, 2019, to address a conspiracy theory that the U.S. government is conducting tests with space aliens. For many decades people have questioned whether or not there was life outside of Earth. There are multiple articles and stories that discuss scenarios in which people see possible UFOs and other signs of extraterrestrial life. People believe that it is probable that the government communicates with aliens. Specifically, they suspect that all of those happenings occur in Lincoln County, Nevada, where Area 51 is located.

On September 20th, 2019, 40 people showed up at the gates of Area 51 by the time law enforcement showed up. Law enforcement officials were aware of the raid days before it happened because of social media. Before the police got to the location, hundreds of people were “jamming out” outside of the gates of Area 51. Matty Roberts is the person who planted the idea into peoples minds to want to raid Area 51. It started out at first as a joke, but soon over 2 million people pledged to storm the grounds. He started a Facebook account in July and wrote about breaking into the area.

Since law enforcement officials were aware of the event, they were able to stop people from trying to break in and send them home. No arrest took place pertaining to people actually participating in the raid, but two arrests did happen that day.  One of them was a UFO hunter who was urinating when people were dancing during a music session. The man was unnamed, but he was taken into custody. The second arrest that took place involved two dutch YouTubers who were arrested for trespassing on property belonging to the Department of Energy, which is near Area 51. Both of them are now going to serve two years in jail for trespassing.

Since then, many news articles have been written about what happened that day. People have also taken to social media to discuss their views on what happened. Both people who attended and did not attend talked about how they thought the raid went and about their experiences. Most of them said that they were disappointed with the outcome of it and expected people to go crazy and end up finding aliens. We can now say that if anyone tries to storm Area 51, the government will find out and seize it.
