Farragut Men’s Basketball Preview

Farragut Mens Basketball Preview

Hey Farragut Admirals! Who is ready for some Admiral Hoops? With football and volleyball coming to an end, what will we cheer for? We expect Farragut Basketball to have a good season this year. We are seeing new changes in our style of play, our kids getting stronger, and there are new transfers to help Farragut. In the past, Farragut has not been known for its basketball program. In 2017, the Ads went 15-14 and got knocked out in the second round to Knoxville Catholic. In 2018, their record was 8-13, and they lost to West in the district semi-finals. But this year, that will change. There is a great coaching staff and many talented players that are developing and working very hard.

Coaching the basketball team this year is Jon Higgins. Coach Higgins is currently a P.E. teacher and golf coach for Farragut. Having Higgins coach will turn Farragut Basketball around. He knows a lot about basketball and was a skilled player himself. He played basketball for Tennessee during 1999-2003. He also brought in new coaches that have a good basketball background to help bring the program up.

In the article “Rocky Top Preview,” he is one of UT’s all-time leader in career 3-point percentage (fifth, 39.8 percent), 3-pointers made (fourth, 209), 3-point attempts (fifth, 525), assists (eighth, 352), steals (ninth, 130), games started (third, 122) and games played (eighth, 124).

Even though Farragut has not played a single real exhibition game yet this year, there have been summer league games. According to senior Robby Geron, these games have been excellent for the team.

“I think our team performed well over the summer. We only lost a few games and we played some very good competition. We changed our style of play and really got rolling as a group over the summer. Preseason has been great because all the guys have been working really hard and getting into shape and getting stronger in the weight room.”

Sophomore Dillon Atwell mentioned that Farragut has more depth on the bench to help the team.

“Summer showed that we are gonna have a very deep team. That we can all play. We have more of a bench this year”.

Not only do we have more of our players developed, but we have also had some new talent arrive to Farragut. We had about 5 transfers playing in the summer with us. Therefore, we got some new younger players and new veterans to help the team. Several of them did great things and will look to be a big part of the program. We expect big things from them as well as the rest of the players on the team.
