The Past Five Years’s Best and Worst Superbowl Performances

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez certainly stole the show at Super Bowl LIV this past Sunday with their incredible halftime performance. The halftime show is something that many fans look forward to, and some people only tune in to watch it. The past six years, the Super Bowl halftime show has showcased some of music’s biggest stars and performers. As you look back on the past six years, it’s easy to compare which performances were the best, and which were the worst. Here is our ranking of the best to worst from 2015 to present.

  1. 2015: Katy Perry with Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot

While Perry gave a great show, with a plethora of special effects and full of her classic songs, it just did not impress us like the others did. Perry performed “Roar”, “Dark Horse”, “California Gurls”, and “Firework” and more.

  1. 2018: Justin Timberlake

While we’re super impressed that Timberlake was able to perform the entire fifteen minutes by himself, his songs and the show itself did not stand out as anything special. Some songs that Timberlake performed include: “Rock Your Body”, “SexyBack”, “Cry Me a River”, and “Suit and Tie”.

  1. 2019: Maroon 5 with Travis Scott and Big Boi

While Maroon 5 did not impress anyone, we had to bump this show up based off of Travis Scott’s performance. Scott came up and performed songs off of his recently released album, Astroworld. And as teenagers, we loved it, of course. Maroon 5 played classic songs like “Harder to Breathe”, “She Will Be Loved”, and Scott’s “Sicko Mode”. Scott entered the stage with Spongebob’s “Sweet Victory”, which was definitely a highlight of the performance.

  1. 2016: Coldplay with Beyonce and Bruno Mars

Coldplay gave an unbelievable performance–and one of the only performances in recent years to be during daylight. Beyonce and Bruno Mars also sang, with Beyonce playing songs off of her recent album, Lemonade. All three performers gave great performances. Coldplay performed their songs, “Yellow”, “Paradise”, “Adventure of a Lifetime”, and “Fix You”. Mars played “Uptown Funk” and Beyonce played “Formation”.

  1. 2020: Shakira and JLo with Bad Bunny and J Balvin

This year’s performance really stole the show. Shakira and JLo defined latina flavor with their most popular songs. Shakira performed songs like “She Wolf”, “Hips Don’t Lie”, “Waka Waka”, and Cardi B’s “I Like It” with Bad Bunny. JLo performed classics like “Jenny from the Block”, “On the Floor”, and a “Booty” “Mi Gente” crossover with J Balvin.

  1. 2017: Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga not only performed alone, but she even jumped from the roof of the stadium. Viewers were blown away by the singing of her classic songs, choreographed dance numbers, and crazy special effects. Gaga began with singing “God Bless America” and then switched to performing classics like “The Edge of Glory”, “Pokerface”, “Just Dance”, and “Bad Romance”.
