Nicki Minaj’s Father Killed in Hit and Run Accident

Nicki Minaj with her father, Robert Maraj

Nicki Minaj, singer, songwriter, model, and actress, is well known by many individuals. From 2011 to 2016 alone, Minaj had been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards. Throughout Minaj’s career, she has captured the attention of many and has gained quite an audience. Minaj was born in Trinidad and moved to America, two years after her parents came to America, to be raised in Queens, New York City, New York. Minaj had a difficult childhood. She grew up with an abusive father and believed that becoming rich would remove these problems.

He was just abusive…I would always hear him yelling and cursing, always. And it made me feel it was the way to interact because that’s how I saw him interacting.,” according to an interview with Minaj with New York Times.

While her father, Robert Maraj, struggled with drug addictions, alcoholism, and abusive tendencies, he entered rehab later on in life and got the help he needed. Despite the fact that Maraj has fixed some of his problems, Minaj seems to still be scarred by the experiences that he put her through. Their relationship was never fully repaired, but there has been forgiveness involved.

Unfortunately, on February 13, 2021, Maraj was fatally struck by a vehicle in Long Island, New York. Maraj was 64 years old when fatally struck by 70-year-old, Charles Polevich.

“Using surveillance video, Nassau County police said they tracked the accused’s older model car to his nearby Mineola home, where he hid the damaged vehicle in a detached garage,” according to the CBS New York local news station.

Polevich was ordered to turn over his passport and was released on a $250,000 bond. He was also ordered not to leave the state and has had his license suspended. If Polevich had not fled the scene, he may not have been charged. It is believed that this hit and run was a complete accident and Polevich never intended to fatally hit Maraj.

Maraj was struck around 6:15 PM on that snowy Friday evening and died the following Saturday morning. Minaj has not commented on her father’s death. While Maraj may have been a negative influence in Minaj’s life, he will be remembered forever.
