On Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Page High School, Farragut High School’s only senior lacrosse player, Grant King fell on his hand and breaking the pointer near the bottom knuckle. Farragut was losing at the time of the injury. The ball was stopped in front of the Farragut goalie with a Page attacker going for the ball. Grant dove at the ball and his right hand hit the ground wrong and broke his hand.
At first the injury went unnoticed because Farragut had gotten position and scored on the same play. As the players and crowd died down, that is when they realized, and the players of both teams took a knee. The Farragut players knew something was bad because King was not one to go down if he got hurt in practice he would keep playing. King was on the field for about 10 minutes where a player injury timeout was put in place. King stayed on the side line for a little longer to encourage the layers and say goodbye to the coaches before he left to go to a doctor for x-rays. King is predicted to be out for the rest of the season but his lacrosse days are not over yet. He was previously signed to a D-2 university for a lacrosse scholarship. A school named Lander University, in Greenwood South Carolina. The injury will not affect the scholarship, because it was not a major injury.
After the injury occurred, Mason Whitehouse had a late hit on the Page goalie causing the goalie to get hit and he hit him back. This caused a penalty on both players creating an issue for the other team because they now needed a different goalie. The goalie took his gear off to give to a back up goalie causing our goalie to notice that they had illegal equipment. The new equipment has an extra pad on the sternum protector that bulges out on the chest. Farragut’s coach, Matt Bergman, asked the refs to do an equipment check on the goalie gear. This is when the equipment was confirmed to be illegal, the game was ended there, and the game was a loss for Farragut, with Page winning 9 to 3. But after the call was reviewed by the board of lacrosse the game turned into a win for Farragut and a loss for Page due to forfeit.
