In America, one sport that many individuals are passionate about is football. Throughout American history, football has been seen to be a great source of entertainment. Unfortunately, within the last year, the Coronavirus pandemic has postponed and canceled many sporting events. These sporting events that have been postponed and canceled can range from high school football games to NFL games. Aside from the postponed and canceled games, college football has tried to persevere during these unprecedented times.

Of the many college football teams that have been impacted by the coronavirus, Western Carolina University’s football team is also experiencing these struggles. WCU’s football team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division. As a result of the pandemic, the fall games for the university were canceled. To ease the letdown, in October of 2020, the Catamounts unveiled their spring schedule! Pictured below is their upcoming schedule:

Despite the challenges that have come with the pandemic, WCU’s football team is beginning to get some confidence back this spring. As WCU continues to navigate these unprecedented times, the Catamount Athletics Department is working hard with local and state officials in determining capacity limits that promote physical distancing. As information becomes more clear on capacity guidelines, WCU Athletics will be in touch with season ticket holders who renewed their season tickets earlier this year regarding procedures of allowing fans at the spirit-filled E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field.

“Kickoff times and full broadcast information for each league game will be released in the coming weeks. All nine SoCon schools’ home games are slated to air on either ESPN3 or ESPN+ if not selected for national or regional broadcast,” according to WCU’s official athletics website.

With all of this in mind, Americans are definitely ready for more football games to come. WCU’s Catamounts are one of the many teams who have faced struggles this past year but they will not let it stop them from competing against other football teams with confidence!
