On Thursday March 25th Biden gave his first formal news conference on some of his ideas and the plans he has for this country moving forward. One of the more pressing topics is that of Covid-19. During his speech he announced that he’s now set a new goal of 200 million vaccine doses by the end of his first 100 days in office. He also talked about his $1.9 trillion COVID relief plan and all the benefits it is going to have in this country as Biden plans to move forward with the distribution of vaccines.
“When I took office I decided that it was a fairly basic, simple proposition. I got elected to solve problems,” Biden said.
Biden was then asked about the migrant surge at the border.
According to ABC News, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection has struggled to handle the influx of unaccompanied minors crossing the border, which is only expected to increase in coming months, and news media access to the facilities housing children has been extremely limited and tightly controlled.”
Biden claimed that what was happening at the border with the overcrowding was “unacceptable.” He also pushed back on the topic by saying that this influx occurs every year. This was after pictures from Donna, Texas released photos of young children being held at a facility.
One reporter questioned Biden on this issue by saying, “There are kids that are sleeping on floors. They are packed into these pods. I’ve spoken to lawyers who say that some of these children have not seen the sun in days. What is your reaction to these images that have come out from that particular facility? Is what’s happening inside acceptable to you? And when is this going to be fixed?”
Biden responded by saying, “That’s why we’re going to be moving a thousand of those kids out quickly. That’s why I got Fort Bliss opened up. That’s why I’ve been working from the moment this started to happen to try to find additional access for children to be able to safely, not just children, but particularly children, to be able to safely be housed while we follow through on the rest of what’s happening,”
During the conference questions were asked about how Biden plans to move forward on gun control and what plans he intends to put into place.
“It’s a matter of timing,” Biden said.
He continues this by saying how in this country there are more pressing matters like the pandemic that are more of a priority now for this country to get back on track. These were just a few important topics that were covered during his first formal presidential conference.
